W Europie tzw. porcelana Imari spopularyzowała się w XVII i XVIII wieku za sprawą importu kupców holendrskich. Imari to charakterystyczny styl dekoracji w ceramice japońskiej, który wyróżnia specyficzna gama kolorystyczna oparta na bieli, odcieniach niebieskiego i czerwieni, z dodatkiem zieleni, złota i czerni.

Talerz ten to standardowy wyrób Imari, pokryty motywami florystycznymi i geometrycznymi, oraz symetrycznym podziałem na sekcje z charakterystycznym niebieskim polem po środku. Posiada również typowy dla talerzy Imari pofalowany brzeg.

Japanese Imari porcelain plate, likely from the late Edo period (1603–1868) or early Meiji period (1868–1912). Hand crafted and hand-painted near Arita town in one of many porcelain manufacturers in the region, plates and other tableware were exported to abroad through a port in Imari.

The style became known as Imari because of the port, when the porcelain began to be widely exported to Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries via the Dutch East India Company. It uses a characteristic colour scheme of red, blue, and white, with touches of gold and black. This plate is a standard Imari piece, covered with floral and geometric motifs, and symmetrically divided into sections with a characteristic blue field in the center. It also has the typical Imari wavy edge.
